The Social effect from the Industrial Revolution was one of great affect. It started small. It grew bigger, and now due to the industrial revolution, look where we are today. There is no bussiness in the modern day that doesn't run without machine. It is said that the social effect of the industrial revolution was good, and partly bad. What we do know is that without it the world as we know it today would be completely different than what it is today.
When the Industrial Revolution started it was acting very slowly on the affect on people. This was shortly found out to be false. Within a couple of years of machines and city jobs opening. The cities grew like crazy. What began slow was now gaining speed and growing. Within years the cities were making profits, and people began to work.
With the people moving to the cities many services were going to be needed. These services included Hospitals, schools, and also clothing and grocery shops. With the people moving to the cities and getting jobs, health began to see the affect. Medicine wasn't the thing that was advancing, but rather the filth and disease was.
During this time there was no running water. This meant that when people went to the bathroom they couldn't flush. Therefore when they were done they threw their bussiness out the window. During the night certain men would come and pick them up and dump them in the water. Since there wasn't any junkyards yet, there was no way of disposing it properlly. With that in mind that is what began to spread disease. The water began to be polluted and was no undrinkable. Medicle advances were needed.
With Schools that was made possible. Since people began to have jobs in the city and the kids were sent off to school rather than working all day. People began to go to colleage. With that the age of medical advances started. Although they weren't the best medical advances and they didn't happen until later in the industrail revolution they still were important to the saving of lives.
With schools and jobs now opening people began to have money. The money could be put into the local economy by going shopping. With the idustrial revolution at hand people were obviously going to make money. With the spending of money the economy grew. With the economy growing the wages went up and people began to afford the living that was needed back in those days.
Above is a picture of what a city would look like during the day in the industrial revolution.

During the time that men, women, and children didn't have to work they did other things. When women didn't have to work they did what every mother or women would do. They cleaned. Children would often have to work and therefore not have any time for fun, but for the children of the rich they didn't have to work. Therefore they use the "leisures of the city agriculture. These included, parks, stores, and whatever had the word fun installed in it" (Itscotland). Rich women would stay at home and lounge around. Men would often be at work. Therefore they really didn't have time to have fun. When they did they would play the popular sports that took place in their city. They would play them in the streets of the city. Although the industrial revolution had its fun times it also led to sin. These sins often meant gambling. This gambling was way out of control, and people would gamble money away like crazy.
The cities were often crowded and it wasn't always comfortable. Therefore it wasnt nice. People lived in what are known as tenements. were apartment buildings attached to factories. You can imagine the stench and dirt that was involved from the factory. These tenements were often full the door. They often had up to 13 people in one small room. During the winter it was hard to keep warm. "Everyone gathered around the fireplace to keep warm. If they could not afford to buy wood or coal for the fire, they had to huddle together to keep warm. (Itscotland pg 7)" This shows that these places were just not nice places to live.
Through all this we can see that although the industrial revolution was a good thing, it also had its flaws. It was sometimes sick, disgusting, and outright wrong. Sanitation, work laws, and work ethics all had to improved. Eventually they were, and now they are at where we are today.
